Tall, prickly unbranched stem from previous year’s rosette. Leaves alternate, linear, with sharp hairs, reduced above. This is a strict biennial: rosette of hairy, linear foliage first year; spectacular spike of white flowers the next. Largely restricted to slopes of the Front Range of CO. The common name is well established, and the plant is distinctive and unmistakable. Native.
